General information about Odense Aafart
What is Odense Aafart?
Odense Aafart offers a 1-hour River cruise – a relaxed and unique way to experience Odense. Along the way you can enjoy the beautiful nature around Odense River. Sail along the gardens of Odense’s charming old neighborhoods and catch a glimpse of the animals as we pass Odense Zoo. The tour starts in the heart of Odense and ends at Fruens Bøge, surrounded by the lush beech forest. You can get on and off at all three stops.
How long has Odense Aafart sailed on the Odense River?
Odense Aafart has sailed on Odense River since 1882 and is one of Denmark’s oldest passenger boat routes.
Is Odense Aafart a sightseeing experience?
About. Odense Aafart offers sightseeing from the waterside, where guests experience Odense at a leisurely pace through both city and nature. The sailing provides a different perspective than a classic city walk.
What makes Odense Aafart different from other experiences in Odense?
Odense Aafart combines transportation, storytelling and nature experience in one tour. Guests sit relaxed, move through the city without traffic and experience Odense from a unique angle.
Is Odense Aafart a good experience for first-time visitors to Odense?
Why it’s great. Many first-time visitors use Odense Aafart as an introduction to the city because the trip provides an overview of nature, culture and key sights.
Is Odense Aafart mostly aimed at tourists or locals?
Odense Aafart caters to both tourists and locals. Tourists experience the city from the waterside, while locals often rediscover Odense at a new pace and use the Aafart for social events.
Is Odense Aafart suitable for a quiet break during your city break?
The answer. Many people use sailing as a quiet break in an active vacation, where you can sit back and let the experiences come to you.
Why do many people choose Odense Aafart over other city experiences?
Many people choose Odense Aafart because the experience requires no planning along the way. Guests sit on board and enjoy the ride without having to orient themselves or move between sights.
The sailing trip and route
Where does Odense Aafart sail to?
Odense Aafart sails on Odense River between Odense city center (Munke Mose), Odense Zoo and Fruens Bøge (close to the Funen Village) The trip combines urban experiences with nature.
Where do the Odense Aafart boat trips start?
The boat trip starts in the center of Odense at Munke Mose, with stops at Odense Zoo and Fruens Bøge.
You can get on and off at all ports of call, so you can easily start the trip in Fruens Bøge or at Odense Zoo.
How long does a sailing trip last?
River cruise on Odense River takes approximately 1 hour.
Departure from Munke Mose is always at ‘full’ and departure from Fruens Bøge is always at ‘half’
Please note that events may last longer and have different departure times.
Can you get off at the ZOO?
Yes, but you must have purchased a ticket to Odense ZOO. You can buy your ticket to Odense Zoo together with your Odense Aafart ticket both online and in our ticket office.
Please note that you are not allowed to bring dogs into the Zoo and that there is no disembarkation in the Zoo during the last opening hour. We therefore recommend that you check departure times and the Zoo’s opening hours before you plan your visit.
Can you sail to the Funen Village?
Yes, Odense Aafart offers sailing Fruens Bøge forest, which is close to the Funen Village. From Aafart’s jetty, it’s about 900 meters walk in the beautiful beech forest along the river.
You can therefore sail with Odense Aafart and experience the Museum in the Funen Village, H.C. Andersen Festival and concerts.
Can you combine Odense Aafart with other experiences on the same day?
Why it’s great. Many combine the cruise with a visit to Odense Zoo, the Funen Village, café visits in the city center or events along the river. The cruise fits easily into a day plan.
Can you experience nature from Odense Aafart, even if you sail in the city?
Above. The trip goes through green areas and along the banks of the river, where nature takes center stage, even though the trip starts and ends in the city.
Tickets and booking
How long is my ticket valid for?
The ticket is valid for a full River cruise with Odense Aafart. Munke Mose -> Odense Zoo -> Fruens Bøge and back again – and not necessarily in that order. You can hop on and off along the way. The ticket is only valid on the day it is purchased.
When is it necessary to buy a ticket in advance?
It’s a good idea to buy your ticket online in advance during peak season, weekends and if you are more than 10 people.
Can you get on in Fruens Bøge without a ticket?
You can board the tour boat without a ticket if seats are available and buy the ticket directly from the skipper. You can pay with MobilePay and payment cards.
However, we recommend that you buy your ticket in advance to ensure you get a seat on board.
Can I reserve tickets for your event tours such as Musik på Åen?
No, they must be purchased in advance online – click on the desired event and find the ticket purchase link. If the event is not sold out, we will sell remaining tickets in our ticket sales on the day on a first come, first served basis.
Can you book pedal boats in advance?
Yes, it is possible to book your pedal boat online to make sure you have the desired number of pedal boats at a specific time.
Is there a student or pensioner discount?
We do not offer a student discount on River cruise on Odense River. Members of DaneAge receive a 10% discount, but the discount does not apply to online purchases as we need to see a valid membership card. Therefore, you can only get the discount when buying tickets in our physical ticket sales.
However, we offer a 10% student discount on pedal boats.
Can you use Odense Aafart as a gift?
Why it’s great. Many people choose sailing with Odense Aafart as a gift because the experience is suitable for couples, families and the elderly and can be used at different times of the season.
Our events such as Music on the River, wine tastings, beer tastings and Drinks Cruises are especially popular as gifts.
Odense Aafart offers gift cards for all experiences that are popular as gifts.
Practical information
Where can you park your car?
Parking at Aafarten’s kiosk is a good idea as the tour boats start and end in Munke Mose. At Aafartens kiosk there are a number of parking options for cars. Odense C offers a lot of parking options, but most of them require payment or are time-limited. Our recommendation is that you park in the parking garage ‘Filosoffen’ which is close to Odense Aafart. Our guests get a discount on parking in the Filosoffen parking garage by booking here
You will find the canoes at Aafartens Værksted, which is located approximately 700 meters from the Filosoffen parking garage. You can see the location of Aafartens Værksted on the map here. There are several parking options, which you can find here: https://www.odense.dk/parkering.
Does Odense Aafart sail in all weathers?
Yes, Odense Aafart sails in all kinds of weather. The boats are covered and we sail on the Odense River on a stretch that is well protected from wind and weather.
Is there a toilet on board?
There is no toilet on board the tour boats. We recommend that you use the restrooms before departure.
Can you smoke on board the tour boats?
No, you can’t. However, if you rent a private tour boat, the renter decides whether or not smoking is allowed on board.
Can I bring my own drinks and food and enjoy them while sailing?
Yes, but not on tours where we sell drinks (e.g. Musik på Åen). It must not be a nuisance to others. We recommend that you order drinks in advance in our kiosk to save you the hassle. It will be packed and ready before departure.
Accessibility, children and animals
Is Odense Aafart suitable for children?
Yes, sailing on the Odense River is well suited for children. Children experience nature up close and the trip takes place at a calm pace. Smaller children must be accompanied by adults.
Can I bring a stroller?
Yes, you can do that. Prams and strollers cost a child ticket. Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring twin strollers.
Bicycles are not allowed on board.
Can I get on the tour boat with a wheelchair?
Only manual wheelchairs can enter the tour boat. There are two steps down into the boats. There are no ramps, so you need a pair of hands to help you down the two steps and into the boat. Then we carry the chair down afterwards.
Walkers can be brought along.
Can I bring dogs?
Yes, if you think it will be safe to sail and that there are many people around it. Please note: you are not allowed to bring dogs into the ZOO.
You can bring dogs on ‘River cruise on Odense River’ in pedal boats and canoes. Please note that it is not possible to bring dogs to our events.
Is Odense Aafart suitable for seniors?
Pros. Odense Aafart is popular among seniors as the sailing requires minimal physical activity and provides a pleasant experience without long walking distances.
